Tjabe

The other night when we were praying before bed, Tjabe's prayer sounded like this (we have him think of three things to thank God for):
"God, thank you for clocks, so we can see them and fix them [we had to wind our grandfather clock that day].  Thank you for wagons so we can pull them and push them, and thank you for spoons for eating and spanking.  In Jesus' name, amen."

This morning he was playing with one of his toy stethoscopes (he's very insistent on wearing it draped around his neck when he's not using it, "like on Scrubs").  I was working in the kitchen, and he walked up behind me, muttered something about needing to check me, and planted the stethoscope on my butt for a minute while he listened intently.  Then he walked off and declared that I was okay.
I was a little caught off guard, but am taking it as a compliment.

He had a screaming fit last night before bed, from a combination of being overly tired and me not reading him a story because he was taking too long putting away his toys.  Amidst the crying, as I was supervising him picking up his room, we moved his toy chest away from the wall and found a long-lost toy hammer.  He immediately stopped crying and said, "Oh, we found my hammer!"  Then he began crying again as he had to continue picking up, and went to bed still crying.  After the crying subsided and he finally fell asleep, I went in to check on him and found him passed out on his bed, holding his toy hammer.

Today Tjabe peed a little in his underwear.  He usually gets a spanking for this, since he knows better, so after he got clean underwear on our conversation went like this:
T: Are you going to spank me?  I want ONE spanking.
Me: Yes, I'm going to give you one spanking, because you know that's what happens when you go potty in your underwear.
T: Okay. (he gets the spanking)
T: Thank you.
Then he calmly walked out of the room.
